The Many Benefits of Dancing

The Many Benefits of Dancing

Throughout the history of the world, dance has played a vital role in some of the most important and life altering celebrations and ceremonies that have existed. Battles have been fought and won immediately following weapons dances, Kingdoms have been one and lost and celebrated with dances. Kings and Monarchs have been crowned then celebrated with dances, and marriages have been consummated with dances of another kind.

Dance has always been at the center of important events until recent history when it would seem that dance and the importance of dance to morale has been lost somewhere in the process. Dance these days seems to be limited to certain people in certain circumstances or only to those who engage in the art of dance for the entertainment of others rather than the simple joy of dancing for the sake of dancing.

Dance is one of those things that should not be a footnote in the journals of the history of the world. When mankind looses the ability to dance for joy, there really is no reason for the race of mankind to continue on. The ability to dance, as an outward expression of emotion is one of those rare things that separates a man from a beast.

Though the importance of dance seems to have been misplaced in the last century or so, we are seeing a rebirth of sorts for the love of dance and finally beginning to understand some of the more important issues that dance addresses. It is far more than something meant to entertain spectators. It should also entertain those that are doing the dancing.

In addition to the entertainment aspect of dance, which should not be diminished, dance is also a physical activity. We live in a world where the expected lifespan of our children, is shorter than the lifespan of those who are already adults. The primary reason for this is a lack of physical fitness and an over abundance of weight. We need to lead by example and show our children that it is important to do little things that get us off our seats and moving around. Dance is a great way to do exactly that.

Beyond this however, dance has other fitness benefits. By increasing your muscle tone and your blood flow by dancing you are giving your heart a 'battery boost' so to speak. Doing this on a regular basis will lead your heart to be a much healthier heart than if you were to lead a sedentary lifestyle. Dance also relieves stress and releases endorphins if your working up a good sweat so to speak. This makes you feel happy and relieves and reduces instances of depression.

Another great benefit of dance to those who care is the fact that it increases muscle tone and gives your body a longer and leaner look over time and with consistent, disciplined training. Some have also noticed a renewed sense of grace and constantly increasing self-confidence.

Of course, if these reasons aren't enough to convince you of the important role that dance can play in your life as well as in society then perhaps you should just get out there and dance. Try it out, see how much fun it is to dance for no reason other than to dance and then try to explain why we as a society do not need to engage in such activities a little more often.

The Indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit

The Indwelling Presence of the Holy Spirit

Did you know that if you are a Christian you are hosting a Mystery? God has always been next to you, but now that you're born again, He actually resides in you, through the Holy Spirit. This is our assurance of salvation and eternal life with the Lord. It is also our assurance of having saving help available to us in this life. The Holy Spirit enables us to live the right way and rescues us when we don't. Living the Christian life would be impossible without Him!
"And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you." John 14:16-17 ESV

The Indwelling Presence

This isn't something that you have to earn or try to get. There's even no need to wonder whether you received this gift. In the moment we became a new creation in Christ, the Holy Spirit started dwelling inside of us. Saving faith, the forgiveness of our sins, and the indwelling Spirit are all given at the same time.

Most of us wouldn't know this had happened, unless we read it in the Bible. That's partly because we didn't have the Holy Spirit on their minds when we sought salvation. Then, in becoming saved, Jesus quite naturally caught our whole attention. In keeping with this, the Holy Spirit prefers to help us focus on Jesus, rather than draw attention to Himself.

Considering this set up, it's no wonder that the Holy Spirit is called the "mystery Person" of the Trinity. He loves helping us secretly from within and does it so well that it takes a lot of practice to recognize His ways of working with us. Still, it's great good fun playing Hide and Seek with our mystery Guest, once you catch on to the game. But why did the Lord make it that way?

Why Jesus Went Away

You're probably thinking that the disciples had it way too easy, or at least much easier than us. After all, they could physically interact with Jesus and enjoy His visible presence. They couldn't possibly ask for more, right? However, according to Jesus, their experience wasn't as good as it could get. They would actually benefit more from His departure.

Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. John 16:7

What was Jesus thinking? Perhaps, He was simply referring to the approaching crucifixion. Jesus "departed" from His disciples by dying on the cross---making an atonement for their sins which they needed as much as we do. But we know that His departure didn't end with death. He came back from the dead! But then He went away again, and worse (or so it seems) He's been away ever since. This is apparently His way of making it more to our "advantage."

Remember "doubting Thomas"? His faith was definitely strengthened by seeing Jesus, just like the other disciples. Surely, that means it's better to see spiritual realities with our natural eyes, especially the reality of our Risen Lord upon whom all our faith depends. But, no. Jesus rebuked Thomas for not believing what others told him, saying it would have been better if he had believed without seeing. That goes for us, too. Believing without seeing is somehow better.

The Reality We Overlook

God knows what's best for us. Put a period there and let that really sink in. If He thought that we needed Jesus to be visibly present all the time, then we would have that. Clearly though, that's not our Lord's plan. Instead, He gave us a Helper whom we cannot see, but nonetheless resides in us and never departs.

Most of the time, we tend to fixate on the invisible side of our Helper, wishing we could see more. We would be better served, however, by concentrating on the absolutely glorious reality of His steadfast presence. We are joined "at the hip" to our God forever, in the most intimate way imaginable. This is the key to the mystery. It's the reason why Jesus said having an invisible Helper is to our advantage.

Believe it or not, there were/are a lot of disadvantages to having a visible God to follow around in the world. For one thing, He might be tied up with others for hours or days at a stretch and have precious little time for you. He might send you out on assignment, while He stays back to do other things. Worse, He might even start following you. If you want a visible God with you always, imagine what would happen in your most private moments. I shudder to think.

The Great Advantages

Amazingly, the constant indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit doesn't disrupt our private moments. We have our sense of privacy completely undisturbed, yet He is always with us and within us. That's truly marvelous! With an invisible Helper, we have privacy, freedom and ever-present help. We can turn to Him in any instant and know He is with us and will help us with any concern we have.

We can also turn away. Of course, the religious side of us will say immediately, "But I would never turn away!" Really? That's what Peter said. Yet, Jesus left him free to do just that. Had Peter already been perfected, he wouldn't have turned away. But the real Peter, the still-immature Peter, the Peter who didn't know himself sufficiently, still needed to grow.

For the sake of growth, God allows us to turn away, so that we can discover of our own free will how wrong that decision truly is. If Jesus followed us visibly down all our dark alleys, we would grow to hate His "meddling interference." Wisely, He steps back and let's us make the discovery on our own. But catch the wink. Even when we turn away as Christians, the Holy Spirit secretly and silently goes with us, helping us in ways we only later recognize. That's better, isn't it?

What Does the Holy Spirit Do?

This is not a complete list---just enough to get you started. He's hiding, but He wants to be found. You're the seeker, so be sure to get in the game. Enjoy this loving hunt!

1) He's Our Helper. For any kind of assistance that you could possibly need, He's got your back. From laughing to weeping, working to playing, God has always been (and always will be) with you. Leaning into His power and wisdom can help us immensely in every field. Just keep in mind that God still requires us to do our part. He's the Helper. We're the doers.

2) He's Our Sanctifier. At conversion, we were "sanctified" when the Holy One came to live within us and "set us apart" for a life with God. But there's more to being sanctified than that. Before we get to enjoy eternity with God in heaven, the Holy Spirit will be cleansing our thoughts, attitudes, emotions and actions as we cooperate with Him down here. What needs cleansing? Anything that doesn't match up with Jesus!

3) He's Our Truth Teller. This just may be His biggest assignment. Jesus said He was sending the Spirit to lead us into all truth. He does this by convincing us that sin really is sin, that God's ways (righteousness) really are the right ways to go, and that His judgment in these matters is all that really matters. For instance, He brings to mind truths from scripture just when we need to remember them. Then, He helps us believe them and act on them, if we let Him.

4) He's Our Guide. Apart from revealing truth to us, the Spirit is also our guiding light. Because He knows what's best for us, He can lead us in the way that is right for us. If we listen to Him, the Spirit will highlight the next right thing to do. He also leads us into the right way of living. He does this by guiding us towards trusting Jesus in every situation. Then, when we surrender our heart to Jesus, the Holy Spirit lifts us and leads us step by step into the new life.

5) He's Our Source of Renewal. Because He indwells us, the Spirit can help us dwell within Jesus. This is always exhilarating! Only by abiding in Christ can we live the life Jesus died to give us---while still on earth. This is the Spirit's most beautiful work. From this place of surrender and trust, the peace, love, joy, and other fruit of the Spirit flow like a river. This can only be received if we trust Jesus with our life and loved ones, and are willing to follow His leadership. Holy Spirit helps us with this in ways that it will become your delight to discover.

Naturally enough, the Holy Spirit is a Self-starter. He isn't going to sit on His Hands waiting for us to get in the right mood in order to begin His divine assignments. With or without our permission, He is ever at work helping us, sanctifying us, revealing truth to us, guiding us and supplying us with the fruit of new life. It just goes so much better when we cooperate! Good spiritual health is letting the Holy Spirit have His way.

The Importance of Text in Your Scrapbook

The Importance of Text in Your Scrapbook

There are those who say that a picture is worth a thousand words. However, humanity came up with words because of a very good reason. You see, pictures can be viewed from different angles and interpreted in different ways. However, words do the job of clearing up those interpretations and giving you the privilege of getting your message across.

Of course, words do get misinterpreted at times. However, you should bear in mind that words are the best tools for communicating your meaning. There are certain words that touch not only the mind, but also the heart. Words are actually meant not only to convey messages, but also to convey a person's emotions. They are used to let people know about the way we perceive things. After all, none of us can really claim to see things from another person's point of view, can we?

For all we know, our whole lives can be a big dream. Nothing could be real. Nothing really confirms that our lives are real. Any explanations, any theories, any evidence can just be a part of the unreality of life.

However, words somehow five us the assurance that other people do experience. Somehow, words anchor us to a place of stability, somewhere between unbelief and fanaticism. Words help us cling to our own understanding.

People do not share much emotion, but when they do, they use words. Sure, you can think of love and say that there are a number of easy ways to express love without resorting to words, yet ask yourself this: "When all those actions and gestures are done, how does it translate in your mind?"

Love is a word. However, that word holds more power than anything on earth. It is actually easy to ignore a certain feeling. However, once you give a name to that feeling, it grows. That is the power of words.

Scrapbooking quotes are just that: words. However, having these words in your scrapbook can result to very powerful effects. You see, words like these give you power. These scrapbooking quotes allow you to convey meaning. These words allow you to convey emotion.

Whether borrowed or your own, scrapbooking quotes can give clarity to the pictures you use to convey your thoughts. You see, the right scrapbooking quote can affect people in a very strong manner. The right scrapbooking quote can serve as the bridge that connects:

a) The person to the memory - A scrapbooking quote can actually help people relate to the memory being portrayed by the different pictures or memorabilia. Many people do not realize this, but certain words trigger reactions from us. In the same manner, a certain word can cause us to recall certain memories or feelings.
The right scrapbooking quote can prepare the reader's mind and allow that reader to grasp the significance of a photograph.

b) Memory to other memories -A scrapbooking quote can also allow a person to connect one event with another. You can use a scrapbooking quote to show how one item on your scrapbook is related to another.

We all know that events form our history. We also know that no actual event is isolated and that all happenings had to have begun somewhere. Using scrapbooking quotes can actually help you show the significance of one object to another and their relationship to a certain event. This way, you can actually use your scrapbook as a tool to tell your story.

c) People to people - Using scrapbooking quotes can actually help other people relate to you. This means that you can use scrapbooking quotes as tools to actually help people understand your emotions. This way, you'll actually be using words to their full potential. By using scrapbooking quotes this way, you will be able to get people to listen.

As you can see, there are a number of ways that people use words to bridge gaps. Words are even more powerful because of the fact that, without them, our civilization would not have progressed. Words share knowledge. We use words to pass on what we have learned to the generations after us. Through this, we are always on the quest for progress and ever-increasing technology. Words make evolution possible.

The Importance Of Selecting Proper Softball Cleats

The Importance Of Selecting Proper Softball Cleats

Cleats are sports shoes with outsole traction devices. They provide support, stability, and traction while playing. Though most cleats have these qualities, specific cleats are to be used for different sports. Even if you play all sports, you should still get a separate pair for each. It is therefore important to make sure that the cleats you want to buy are appropriate for the sport you play. Softball is one of the most common and popular game that requires cleats. Proper cleats for this game can easily be purchased with the following considerations.
Softball cleats are usually manufactured in two types: detachable and molded. Detachable cleats are the cleats commonly used by more experienced players. As the name implies, detachable cleats' spikes are removable. They can be removed from the outer sole and replaced with other studs depending on the surface of the playing field. The studs can either be made with rubber, metal, or hard plastic. Metal cleats are often used on hard playing grounds while rubber and plastic are adopted for turf playing fields. Though adaptable for any playing field, detachable cleats are harder to maintain and clean. As opposed to the detachable cleats, the studs of molded cleats protrude from the outer sole. These studs are usually of hard plastic or rubber. They are molded and do not detach from the shoe. They are also easier to clean and maintain, hence, advisable for playing who are just beginning to learn the sport.

The kind of material used on the cleats is also important. This could spell the difference between a so-so and superb performance. Materials for softball cleats range from the more expensive leather to the cheaper varieties made of synthetic materials. Even if leather is expensive, it is durable, breathable, and flexible. In time, it molds according to feet's shape, thus providing ample support and comfort. Synthetic materials in cleats don't allow feet to breathe and are less able to stand strain and long wear. However, they are cheaper and could be good enough for beginners like kids. The design of the cleats is also an important matter. Design does not mean the aesthetic of the shoe but rather it's cut. A higher cut ankle (3/4) offers added support for the feet and prevents ankle and connective tissue injuries. Most major league players prefer this cut although some feel restricted by the height. For those who want easier movement, a lower cut design provides freedom and ease of movement. Most players agree that cleat height is a matter of comfort and preference.

Having good and proper cleats is essential to any softball game or any game, for that matter. Poorly cared-for cleats usually result in bad games and poor performance. Proper maintenance and care for the cleats ensure that the cleats can resist and withstand long wear, dirt, and ground impact. So aside from having fresher looking cleats, proper maintenance also ensures many good games to come.

The History of Gold Nuggets

The History of Gold Nuggets

Image source: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRBYls3d1BXwG5JfJLaK-aQ0PgYN7Wh6jA7MF0piYSTbo6eL9xwvQEzEYAxmgCS0hxoA840RHoQvj6tPaaQUsxAO7E450xWofF6S1Hu2w-CN3CbFy3SbTymh8AoYOUrNVkGjcMX4EX4fA/s1600/DSC07943+Gold+nugget.jpg

It was once believed that gold nuggets were sheds from gold containing reefs as they were thought to have been released through erosion. This belief tended to support the idea that gold could also form at depth. Although it is possible for some nuggets to be released from particularly rich eroding reefs, most nuggets are believed to have formed otherwise.

It is now believed that gold nuggets are formed very near the surface as gold precipitated from solutions arising from chemical weathering of deep and diffused gold deposits. Even nuggets found at depth are now thought to have originated from their place of formation near the surface. As such, it must be assumed that almost all nuggets of a noticeable size, resting on the surface, would have already been found and that many just under the surface would have been detected. Nuggets that still remain to be found represent a strictly limited and considered a diminishing resource.

By far, China and Australia have high reports of natural gold. While historical records are limited, large nugget finds are reasonably good however, information on nuggets being found currently is scant.

Even the metal detecting community has caused problems and confusion. These can be based on the huge number of stories, unfounded rumors and legends that has promulgated all these years. Official reports and activity reports are mixed and to add to the problem, people who have found these nuggets are selling them secretly several transactions never went through official dealerships.

Due to the stories that fuel and burn all these years, many treasure hunters manage to find the time in search for treasure full time and has ventured into medium to large scale search into the forests around the world. Many of these treasure hunters who find nuggets as a hobby tend to hold on to their hardfound treasures until necessary.

It has been reported that almost all gold nuggets detected during the early 90s have been melted down. During the olden times all gold would have been fashioned into artifacts. During the time of the gold rushes, nuggets did not have any value other than in respect of their gold content. Nuggets were melted and assayed to determine their gold value so that payment could be obtained for provisions, further investment or simply to squander. Indeed, at various times and in various countries private possession of gold, other than as jewelry or official coinage, has been illegal. The Great Depression and the gold price hike of 1980 saw some nuggets held by state governments, museums and private collectors being melted for cash. Only recently has appreciation of geological rarity, natural uniqueness and nostalgia replaced the greed and fear that determined the fate of nuggets in the past.

The distribution pattern for gold nuggets has vary all these years. It is rare for treasure hunters to find that virgin patch today. Gold nuggets smaller than 2 grams do become harder to find with a metal detector, but that is not the real reason. The real reason is that, nuggets much smaller than 2 grams are more prone to redissolving, and are simply not around to be found in the geological environments that support nugget formation. Equally fine particles that can be panned are frequently absent, and even the results of soil surveys seldom reveal gold enrichment very much above background gold levels. This is not accidental, but an intrinsic part of the nugget formation process whereby smaller particles are remobilized into larger ones. Approximately half the gold in the soil on a nugget patch will be as nuggets above 2 grams in weight.

The history behind LEGO toys

The history behind LEGO toys

For sure you have heard or play with LEGO, one of the most famous toys in the word. I want today to tell you a bit more about the history of such a great company.

Ole Kirk Christiansen was a carpenter in Billund, Denmark who opened a woodworking shop in 1916. He and his team of apprentices built furniture for people in the area. The company's name was coined by christiansen in and from the danish phrase. Ole kirk christiansen also his son godtfred kirk invented lego, of the years of the lego brick here are the best sets in history handpicked from.

By 1954 , Christiansen's son, Godtfred, had become the junior managing director of the LEGO Group. It was his conversation with an overseas buyer that struck the idea of a toy system . Lego was born from the creative mind of Danish carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen back in the early 1930's. The Lego name was coined in 1934, meaning "play well" and it certainly has lived up to it's name. The history begins in 1932, when master carpenter Ole Kirk Christiansen sets up a company in Denmark to manufacture a variety of household goods like ironing boards and stepladders along with wooden toys.

Christiansen's company continued to make wooden toys until 1960, when its wooden toy warehouse was destroyed in a fire. In 1934, he named the company "LEGO," an abbreviation of the Danish words "leg godt," or "play well.". Godfred Kirk Christiansen travels to England and meets a purchasing agent on the ferry. They talk about toys. Ole Kirk Christiansen was a carpenter who lived in Bilund, Denmark, and that is also where the company first began. Little would he know that from one decision during the Depression, one of the most popular toys in the world would be created.

For over 30 years, the LEGO Company made only toys and related goods. Then in 1968, the company opened its first LEGOLAND - in its home city of Billund, Denmark. Combining the LEGO building bricks with a computer, the Robotics Invention System 1.5 is currently the most advanced set in the LEGO Company's line of technology-based products. This toy is targeted at users ages twelve and above, and that includes any moms, dads, and grandparents that want to join in. Lego Company still can harvest the profits from its bricks sales as this software will be highle dependable to Lego Mindstorm brick.

Even Lego Company will probably never know where will this partnership goes.

Unfortunately, the Lego company sometimes behaves monopalistically and often overprices its products, counting on branch loyalty to pull them through. Lego has been losing money in recent years but still controls a large market. The LEGO company patents the stud-and-tube coupling system. This new system makes models much more stable. The Lego company expanded their production lines to include lights, cameras, sensors, gears and accessory motors that compliment the Lego RCX. The RCX was a programmable brick that could be connected to a PC and given instructions to carry out very complicated tasks.

Regardless LEGO new policies, LEGO is a great toy, and it's company has done a lot to entertain many kids around the world. Including me.

The Hand Dipping Candle Making Craft Is Challenging and Fun

The Hand Dipping Candle Making Craft Is Challenging and Fun

Image source: https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhozZzPlhYUm2wsmkiHlA0xh_JR6C_BDHZNJElzxDIRKBpXfiYJ8VWgSNRXIcp7tn2u2aHwmUAjUyk2EZLERI-Mp-pZZQBlLuzMvpzhJkEF0VeBf0h89g1JrstQHH5Kbh4fIZp5p9Ia48l7/s1600/dipped+beeswax+candles+and+poured+beeswax+candles+(2+of+8).jpg

Making your own candles is so much fun once you have followed the basic step by step procedures. There are a few techniques to master, but once you have you will be well on your way to enjoying your new hobby or business venture.

Hand dipped candles

Once you are competent with basic candle making, consider experimenting with the art of making hand dipped candles. While these lovely creations take more time, they are stunning. You can use several colors on each candle giving it a unique color scheme. This technique really brings your creativity.

There are basic tools you will need to make hand dipped candles and most of them you will already have if you have been making your own candles. You will need a large amount of paraffin wax, a wick or wicks and a double boiler to melt the wax in. Other utensils include wooden spoons, bowls, and a good quality thermometer. The colors available for hand dipped candles are too many to name. These colors come in various forms including cakes, chips, powder, or liquid. If you choose to add scents to your hand dipped candles you need to make sure it is pure oil that does not have a water or alcohol base to it.

Building the candle

The best way to prepare for any hobby or craft is to make sure that you work in stages. The preparation can make all the difference to the end result and it also reduces the chances of mistakes due to panic.

With candle making the idea is to have all your candle making requirements set out and ready to go. One important factor is to have your wicks cut and ready to set. If you are making sets of candles make sure you cut your wicks to the same length.

The preparation of the wax is just the same for hand dipped candles as it is for any other wax candle you will make, in that you heat it until it reaches a temperature of 160 Fahrenheit. Once it does, turn the heat down very low to keep the wax in liquid form. Add the color to the wax, using a few drops at a time until your reach the color you want. When adding your color use a wire whisk as this blends the color in evenly. Add a small amount of candle making fragrance to the mix at this time if you desire. Use scents moderately as you don't want to have too powerful a smell. Using too much fragrance can also result in the candle not burning properly.

It is actually quite a good idea to put the candle fragrance in the outer layer of wax, but this will depend on how you are going to build your candle.

Now that your wax is ready dip the wicks into the candle wax making sure to coat it well. By repeating this process you will "build" your candle. After the wicks cool, dip them again. Each time you dip them, the candle will grow in size. Once your candle is close to the desired thickness, shave the top with a soft blade giving it a pointed look. Dip your candles a few more times to give them a smooth finish. If you want different colors on the same candle simply have more than one color of wax ready to use. It is at this stage that you may want to vary your colors.

Creating hand dipped candles is a great hobby or business venture. The process is time consuming, but the creations are beautiful. Learning to make hand dipped candles can be tricky. This is not a good type of candle for beginners to try to start with. To practice without wasting supplies, melt down the wax from the candles you are building and use it over and over again until you have the process perfected.

Hand dipped candles do need a little more practice and research than most other methods, but at least you can re-melt your wax and use it again and again until you perfect the hand dipping method.

The Five Basic Types of Needlepoint Stitches

The Five Basic Types of Needlepoint Stitches

One of most confusing aspects of learning needlepoint is deciphering the many stitches that are available. If you are working from a kit, it generally isn't a problem. Each kit will specify which stitches should be used and where. However, if you are creating your own project from scratch, where do you go to get help? At stitchopedia.com needlepoint stitches are separated by type and each stitch is explained and demonstrated. The following is a breakdown of the types of stitches available:

Cross Stitches are probably the most popular type of stitch used today. Crossed Stitches are a principal stitch used in needlepoint tapestry. They are exactly what the name implies - stitches that are created by crossing the threads over each other. The size of the crossed stitch can vary, depending on the thickness of the thread and the gauge of the canvas. It is important, however, to make sure that each crossed stitch covers the canvas. A few examples of crossed stitches are the cross stitch (obviously), fishbone stitch, herringbone stitch and waffle stitch. There are, however, many, many more...

Straight Stitches, again, are exactly what the name implies - straight stitches! These stitches are worked either vertically or horizontally on canvas. They look best when worked on single canvas. They are a great stitch for working large pieces of canvas. However, do not create a stitch that is too long. Some of the more popular straight stitches are the long stitch (aka straight stitch), florentine stitch (aka bargello), and the back stitch.

Diagonal Stitches are stitches that are worked, yes you guessed it, diagonally (at a slant). It is especially important to maintain an even tension when working diagonal stitches. This will help prevent your canvas from warping. Some of the more popular diagonal stitches include: the diagonal stitch (you probably saw that one coming), the basketweave stitch(aka tent stitch) and the continental stitch. Again there are many, many more diagonal stitches available.

Composite Stitches are stitches that use more than one type of stitch. Composite stitches are generally large. Because of this, the yarn may not always cover the canvas completely. To help remedy this, try not to pull the yarn too tight when making the stitches. Some composite stitches include the star stitch (aka the algerian eye stitch), the leaf stitch, and the triangle stitch, plus many more.

Looped Stitches are also called "Pile Stitches". All of these stitches create a texture with a 3-D look. The pile surface is created by the loops contained in the stitches. Some stitches remain with the loops intact, some require the loops be cut. Although looped stitches are generally used in rug making, they may also be used in any needlepoint project that requires a 3-D or "pile" look. Some of the more interesting looped stitches include the loop stitch, the shell stitch (a very exciting stitch) and the velvet stitch. Again, there are many more available.

These are the main types of stitches available today. The final decision of which stitches to incorporate into your piece will depend on the gauge of the canvas/material you are working on and the type of yarn/thread you are working with. However, we can discuss that subject at another time...

The Craft of Sculpting

The Craft of Sculpting

Many people think sculpting is a skill exclusive to very talented artists. In reality, sculpting is a fun and challenging hobby that anyone can enjoy. All that you need is the patience to learn the basics of the art, and the right background knowledge, so you will know exactly how to start.

History of Sculpting

Sculptures have existed way back in prehistoric times. The first people have produced small figurines using stone tools and other carving materials. Archeologists found sophisticated carvings like the Guennol Elam which dates back as early as 3000 BC, and portrait statues of pharaohs in ancient Egypt from before 2,700 BC.

The Classical era produced numerous stone reliefs by well-respected artists like Phidias, who created the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, considered as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Other famous sculptors include Nicola Pisano, who developed the Proto-Renaissance style in sculpture and produced the beautifully crafted sculptures in the Siena Cathedral in Italy, and Donatello, who sculpted the famous Davids statue in marble in 1408.

Today, sculpting is considered an intricate and well-respected art form. Famous works include beautiful pieces all over the world, including the Mount Rushmore sculpture by Gutzon Borglum and Lincoln Borglum, the colorful Kalyaan Totem Pole at the Sitka National Historical Park, and the modernist Gaston Lachaise exhibited at the National Gallery of Australia.

Kinds of Sculptures

Before taking sculpting as a hobby, it is best to first understand the different kinds of carvings, so you will know which ones best fit your style.

Stone carvings - Stone carving is the earliest known form of sculpting. The process involves removing huge chunks of stones from a single rock then polishing the surface with the use of precise sculpting tools. Hardstone carving is a sub-classification of stone carving, which involves sculpting precious stones like agate, onyx, jade and other rock crystals. Famous stone carvings include Michelangelos Pieta and the jade carvings during the Shang Dynasty in China. Bronze casting sculptures - Bronze is a strong but malleable metal, which is ideal for sculpting, especially if the design is a figure in motion. Sculptors usually pour the melted metal into a mold and leave it there to solidify. Plaster and other mixing materials are then used to help set the mold. Casting is often used for designs that are too complex or challenging to do using simple carving tools.

Clay sculptures - Sculptures made of clay are popular because they are cheap and easy to handle, compared to other raw materials used for sculpting. Pottery is the most common form of clay sculpture for both casual hobbyists and serious entrepreneurs.

Wood carvings - Wood is often used to sculpt religious icons displayed in churches and monasteries. Most wood sculptors use whittling to create simple sculptures, and they are experts in choosing the right type of wood based on their intended sculpture. Wood sculpting is also useful in making wood instruments, such as flutes, violins and other bamboo instruments.

Other materials - Less common materials used for sculpting include silver, coral, lapis lazuli and other gems. While they produce beautiful statues, they are less used because the raw materials are often more expensive and harder to come by. Reasons for Sculpting

Many people engage in sculpting for different reasons. Here are the most popular ones:

Religious practice - Many sculptors have produced beautiful works of arts that were used in churches and other religious events. Ancient Greeks have created huge statues of their gods, like Zeus, while Buddhists have made large Buddha statues for their temples. Artistic expression - Many artists use sculptures as a form of expression. While many artists since the Classical era remain unknown, their statues and other work have been recognized and made their mark in the world until now.

Therapy - Some psychologists recommend sculpting as a form of therapy for people suffering from depression and other psychological disorders. They find that sculpting helps relieve stress. It also helps artists become more focused and creative. Tips on Sculpting as a Hobby

In case you decide to start sculpting as a serious hobby, remember these tips:

Prepare a large workspace - Sculpting needs a wide area where you can place your cast and tools. Make sure you have a wide enough space in your backyard, basement or art studio for bigger projects.

Select the right tools and materials - Take your time to find the best tools and materials. Nothing kills the mood worse than your chisel or stone hammer breaking in the middle of a sculpting session.

Use a blueprint - Prepare a reference drawing before starting with the actual sculpting. This map will help you stay on track of your design and avoid unnecessary mistakes during the project.

Look up references - Research on the proper structure of your model. For example, if you are sculpting a dolphin, look at pictures and see the correct curve of the body and the angle of the snout. While you can technically do anything you want with your work, it is always a good thing to have a basis for what you are doing. Finalize the overall form of your piece - Before working on the details, make sure you have the general form of your sculpture in place. Know the right proportions and the correct silhouette. Only then should you start working on the minute details.

Focus on one area at a time Avoid jumping from one section to another when working on the finer details. Finish an arm first then a foot before moving to another part of the work. This helps your concentration, and you can better appreciate your work once its done. Check for symmetry - Try to look for symmetry points in your sculpture, especially when working on portraits. This will help you finish the work faster. Remember that this doesnt work all the time though, and that sometimes asymmetry is what your sculpture needs. Lastly, dont forget to have fun. Sculpting may sound like a tedious process, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes a fun and fulfilling hobby that you can invest your time in.

Taking your history class to significant World War II sites will prove to be an immensely valuable, eye-opening and potentially life-changing experience for young learners. It can be difficult to grasp just how much was sacrificed for our freedom during the war when working out of a textbook, but walking the same ground as soldiers and visiting key sites will help them to understand and also assist greatly with their studies.
There are a handful of important sites that will expose young students to the realities of war in a safe and nurturing environment. Confronting the horrors of war can be unset-tling, but when handled delicately and with sensitively considered itineraries, these school trips can allow pupils to reassess their world view and find appreciation for those that lost their lives for their freedom.

Primary School Destinations:

Opal Coast

The Opal Coast in Northern France is an ideal destination for primary school students. Here you will find many important battle sites and areas from both World War I and World War II, including the actual trenches where soldiers lived at the Somme 1916 Museum in Albert. Learning how soldiers lived during the wars is always an eye-opening and fascinating experience for youngsters and helps to bring the past to life.

London

You do not have to travel too far to see significant sites from WWII, with London offering a few intriguing and important windows onto the conflict. This includes an overnight ex-cursion to HMS Belfast, which provides a fully immersive experience where students see what life was like onboard a warship during WWII. They can explore below the waterline including the Boiler Room, Engine Room, and Shell Room, as well as the gun turrets, Arctic Mess Deck, and other areas. Activities are also available, including fun and valua-ble experience like flag raising, touring the Captains Bridge and even sleeping in real soldiers bunkers on the overnight stay.

Secondary School Destinations:

Poland

Krakow is a good base for a WWII history trip as there is a selection of important sites close by. Most notably this includes Auschwitz, the former Nazi death camp. This can be an upsetting and confronting experience, so be sure to prepare your group beforehand. That being said, it is also a powerful way to introduce your class to the devastating war crimes and genocide that occurred during WWII. Krakow also features the Jewish Mu-seum and Jewish quarter of Kazimierz, which helps students to learn more about the war and immerse themselves in its history.

Normandy

The D-Day beaches at Normandy are probably the most famous WWII site. Reading about the heroic actions can be fascinating, but it does not provide the same experience as walking the beaches yourself and placing the events in context. Students can also benefit from visiting the memorials and cemeteries here for a moving reminder that so many gave their lives in return for freedom. Normandy is, essentially, an outdoor mu-seum and a destination with a wide range of intriguing, tragic, and inspirational learning opportunities that any student will benefit from greatly.

It can be difficult to express just how significant and bloody World War II was in the classroom, but school trips to key sites can educate young minds and provide a poten-tially life-changing and important educational experience.

In fact, if your little girl grows up and continues to be fascinated with dolls, you can help her put together a truly versatile bride doll collection.

When people talk about porcelain dolls they often think of ancient times and porcelain dolls are so often thought of as antique dolls. Take note, however, that there are a lot of modern doll manufacturers who make collectible porcelain dolls. This may be the primary reason why Nicolette is among the most coveted doll of porcelain doll collectors.

A set of porcelain bride dolls known as the Royalton Collection Porcelain Winter Bride Doll also features another must-have for doll collectors. Popular doll-making companies like Ashton Drake also have a considerable collection of porcelain bride dolls that you can choose from. Whether you decide to stick to antiques or expand your collection to include the most popular porcelain dolls of modern times, you will surely find more than enough to satisfy your fascination in dolls. If properly cared for, these dolls can even become heirlooms to be passed on from one generation of little girls to the next.

The Benefits Of Spinning Techniques To The Angler

The Benefits Of Spinning Techniques To The Angler

In the last fifty or so years, no method of casting has gained such popularity as that of spinning. What is spinning? Why did it become so popular? Can you really catch large fish with spinning tackle? Well let's try and answer these questions.

The term spinning in the popular context means casting with a stationary, (or fixed) spool reel. This means that instead of being pulled from a revolving spool, the line spins over the rim of a fixed spool without restraint. The only time the spool of a fixed spool reel moves is when a fish is taking the line out. Rotating on a spindle at the resistance set by the angler with the drag control.

There are a number of advantages to the angler with this system. Firstly, since it is the revolution of the spool which causes "backlash", the fixed spool eliminates one of the angler's most annoying hazards. Also the almost nil resistance on the line makes longer casts, with lighter lures, possible for the average angler.

Many "experts" put the popularity of spinning down to this ease of casting. Undoubtedly a great advantage for the beginner. However, spinning is more than just a lazy man's answer to the casting problem. And whilst it's true that the basics of spinning are easily picked up, the fine points of using spinning tackle will only be mastered with practice.

Spinning has opened many new avenues of fun for the angler. Using this technique, some truly amazing record catches are being made these days. For anyone seeking trophy fish on light tackle the field is wide open. 150lb Marlin have been fought to a belly-up finish in running seas with an 8lb test monofilament line. One angler, after a two-hour fight, landed a 261lb Mako shark on spinning gear with only a 12lb test monofilament line.

Giant Muskies, Pike, Salmon, Trout, Tarpon, and many other "tackle-busters" have been brought to a standstill. With spinning tackle, wether you have hooked a "big 'un" or a "small 'un", every ounce of the fishes strength needs to be exhausted before it can be brought in. You tell me if that isn't a test of skill, and great fun too?

Spinning was never designed to replace bait casting. It is simply another method of casting, not fishing as such. Although it is really just another means of accomplishing the same thing as the bait casting outfits, there is enough difference in the operation and action of the two to give them individual merit.

However, to sum up the major advantages of spinning tackle, we can state the following: Spinning tackle casting is much easier to learn. Casts of greater distances are easily possible. Light lures, including flies and live bait, are easier to cast. Backlashing is eliminated ( although care needs to be taken to prevent tangles). There is a more sensitive response to both small and large fish.

All in all, it is probably safe to say that the beginner will have a more enjoyable and trouble-free fishing experience. Leading them into the more intricate side of the sport before getting fed up and giving up. And the more experienced angler will re-discover the anticipation, excitement, and yes, fun. Let's not forget, for most of us angling is a hobby, even if it is a passionate one. We should enjoy ourselves, give spinning a try. You won't regret it.

The Benefits Of Junior Golf

The Benefits Of Junior Golf

Golf is one of the oldest sports in America. It can be a game that is filled with beauty or with frustration. Teaching kids the game of golf at an early age can be quite beneficial. Junior golf programs teach kids honesty and respect for the game and for themselves.

Golf As A Summer Sport

Getting the kids on the golf course gives them something to do during the summer months. They can go for lessons, play 18 holes during the day and go the driving range as well. There are always opportunities to practice and spend time doing something safe and productive. Parents don't have to worry about where their kids spend their free time while school is out of session.

Bond With Parents

Children will learn many things from their parents. Golf is something that a child and parent can share together. The child gets lasting childhood memories while the parent gets to teach their child something that they are passionate about. You don't get a chance to share those experiences as much when the child is older. Youth programs can help a parent instill that love of the game even more into a child. Kids generally only want to do something when they enjoy it.

Your Child May Be Good At Golf

A youth program can help your child develop his skills. In fact, golf is a great game for both genders. Girls can play at an early age as well if they are interested. Some young female golfer may even grow up to play with the men someday. The ability to practice the game of golf can be expensive. A good youth program can dramatically lower those costs for parents of a gifted golfer.

Every Kid Needs A Real Hobby

Video games are great when it is cold and snowy outside. However, your child should be outdoors when the weather is nice. Golf can be a great hobby for kids of all ages and skill levels. It is a great opportunity for kids to meet other kids their own age. Many friendships can begin at a youth golf program. There is nothing wrong with giving your child the opportunity to socialize.

Golf programs for kids are a great way to get your child interested in something. Having a passion for something at an early age is beneficial for all kids. It is a great chance to meet new people while having a safe place to be during the summer. It is a win-win for kids and parents.

The benefits children get through playing RC helicopter

The benefits children get through playing RC helicopter

There is always a motive behind paying money for anything. Before people make their mind up to pay for one thing or an additional, they have by now established the advantages of making that meticulous obtain. The similar conjecture applies when it comes to paying cash for RC helicopter.

Parents can decide on RC helicopter for its many more advantages. Today in the world of technology, kids also desire to interrelate with technology as well as desire to sharp their mind from the day they born. Not only that but also kids wish to interact with the most recent technology and this can be done with the assistance of their toys which we makes their mind sharp and the games which they play makes their logic powerful. However a number of toys in addition to games are played just in the residence or hall of the home which in turn makes them idle. Nevertheless, these radio controlled jets do not make them idle or they have worse effect on their life. More than that, these remote control helicopters, is a toy that can be applied to make ones kids physically and mentally healthy for the reason that it is flied in the open air not in the closed space. And that is the reason why it makes the kids physically and mentally robust as students run behind the remote control planes to make their remote control in the series of the jets.

The Benefits and Drawbacks to Using Scrapbooking Kits

The Benefits and Drawbacks to Using Scrapbooking Kits

If you've never done scrapbooking before and is planning to start with the obsession, there is one sure way for you so as not to stumble into the common pitfalls most beginners have.

Scrapbooking kits are great ways to begin the craft with. They offer the basics for new crafters without having to spend much on them. Often, newbies have no idea of what would complete a page of an album or what theme to use for the entire album itself. With all the options set in their horizon, it is easy for them to get confused and be misled with choosing the "cool" and "pretty" stuffs.

By using scrapbooking kits, you are less susceptible to low confidence when making decisions. This often comes when the new scrapper hasn't honed his artistic capabilities yet. With the use of these materials, it is easier for the crafter to find his ways through training. These would let him see the possibilities of designs, themes and concepts to draw encouragement in setting their personal and innovative designs.

A scrapbooking kit works well too with people who have always loved the activity yet they are much too preoccupied with things of greater and immediate importance. Having a good combination of everything that you are expected to use can make it a lot easy to mount pictures and memorabilias into layouts without having to think much on the designs. Thus, you enjoy the fun of scrapbooking without having to take long hours typical for the obsession.

Obviously, since the materials in a kit are limited to those of the basics, your creativity too is very much limited. After all, if you would follow the lines that started from scrapbooking kits, you will see that it is linear. Experimentation are not as much welcomed therefore, limiting your creativity.

It is not to say that you have to make use of all the items found in the kit or that it you are strictly limited to those that you see. However, the normal reaction we have when we see the items designed t fit together, we tend not to use our imaginations anymore and be settled on what's within our sights.

There usually are specific uses for scrapbooking its. They normally work well for typical themes like birthdays, weddings, baby concepts and family themes. If you wish to create more diverse themes, kits won't get you through there. After all, they're only there to act as your training wheels. Once you've learned the curves, it would be more manageable for you to explore newer dimensions.

If you have plans of taking scrapbooking kits to newer heights, you can tray adding your own touches to them and use them for later projects. Atleast, now you already have fixed choices that you can work on to in case you find the hunch to start with an album. Keep in mind though that the package would coordinate well and will look good together when used.

Few of the basic things that should be found in your scrapbooking kit are as follows:

- A scrapbook or an album
- Papers (plain or patterned that has a common theme)
- Die cuts
- Stickers
- Ink and rubber stamp
- Any type of scissors
- Punchers
- Cardstocks
- Ruler
- Markers, pens and pencils
- Envelopes
- Adhesives
- Stencils
- Photos
- Any sort of embellishments

You may add many other things to these and be creative as to what to add. However, the only problem that you would have to deal with is the limit of your budget. Though scrapbooking may seem handy, the stuffs that you will be using would actually cause you to spend much. Especially when you have the strong urge of buying even those that you actually can't use.

As you walk your way through the scrapbooking shop, you should keep in mind the mental lists of everything that must be thrown into the basket. It is not a good practice to buy all things that you see nice. You need some planning or else, you'll find yourself dealing with problems on storage.

And please keep in mind that the common denominator among scrappers is their weakness on papers. Since this component takes the largest portion of use, we all fall in the trap of taking more than what we need.

The Art of Selecting a Quilting Pattern

The Art of Selecting a Quilting Pattern

In the past, quilting patterns were handed down generation to generation. You could get new patterns that weren't in your family from close friends. Today, with computers and the Internet there are literally thousands of quilting patterns at your fingertips. How do you select which quilting pattern to use?

Before you begin browsing quilting patterns, determine the purpose of your upcoming quilt. Will it be a gift for a specific occasion? Will it be a wall hanging, piece of clothing, bed cover, furniture cover or even a pillow?

Knowing what you are going to use the quilt for when it is done is the first step in selecting a quilting pattern. Some patterns look better on smaller projects and vice versa. Depending on your quilting skill, you might need several patterns for different sections of your quilt.

The next step in selecting a quilting pattern is to determine approximately what colors you will be using. For example, you would not want to use bright pink if it's going to be a baby quilt for a newborn boy. A wedding quilt would be in light colors. Perhaps the quilt is a wall hanging and needs certain colors to compliment the room's d(c)cor? Knowing what the quilt will be used for will help you determine roughly what types of colors that you want for the quilt.

Decide what types of materials you want to use for the quilt. Some quilting patterns do better with cotton fabrics, while others need different materials to do well. Will you be using high-loft or low-loft batting for the quilt piece? Will it be a batik piece? Knowing the type of material will help you select the best quilting pattern.

Write down your plans for the quilt. As you browse through the patterns available, disregard the ones that don't fit the theme, colors or material that you will be using for your project. Select a design that catches your eye and will be enjoyable to work with. You can look at the colors on the quilting pattern picture to get an idea of what color schemes work best with that particular pattern and modify them to specifically meet your needs.

Many quilters purchase quilting patterns. Some purchase expensive software like EQ6 to generate patterns. Many choose to become members of the QuiltingResourceCenter.com and have access to a large number of quilting patterns that are easy to download and print. The advantage of doing this is that you can modify your design and colors easily since you can see the dimensions of the quilting pattern design and how it will fit together. There is a large selection of themes for the quilting patterns as well.

One fun use of quilting patterns is to learn new quilting techniques. Members at the QuiltingResourceCenter.com have access to a comprehensive library of quilting video tutorials, eBooks, audios and more. You can select a quilting pattern to try out a new quilting technique to add uniqueness to your future quilt projects.

Choosing the right pattern to personalize to match a quilt's theme is essential to the success of every quilting project.

The Art of Doll Collecting

The Art of Doll Collecting

Doll collecting is a popular hobby not just for children but for adults, too. Casual enthusiasts usually have a small set of different dolls at home, while serious collectors can have a huge collection on display.

Whether youre interested in doll collecting as a pastime or you want to invest time and money on the activity, it is wise to know the basics of the hobby first, and learn as much as you can before officially starting it. History of Dolls

Dolls have been around since ancient times. Wooden dolls were discovered in Egyptian tombs as early as 2000 BC while those made of ivory, wood, or clay have existed in the Roman Empire around 100 BC. Ancient Japanese used dolls not just as toys but also in religious ceremonies, while Africans believed that dolls were used by their gods to deliver messages.

There are many famous and popular dolls throughout history. The Teddy Bear is the frontrunner in the doll industry, capturing the hearts of countless children and adults. The first stuffed bear was produced in the early 20th century, and was named after the United States former president, Theodore Roosevelt, after he refused to shoot a captured black bear during one of his hunting trips.

The Barbie doll is an iconic fashion doll that defined a generation of young girls in the 1960s. Famous for its hourglass but anatomically incorrect figure, Barbie has evolved from the original blonde and brunette to different hair and skin colors to better represent its diverse market. Kinds of Dolls

There are many kinds of dolls all over the world. Before starting your collection, it is advisable to know the most common ones and decide which ones you want to focus on.

1. Wooden dolls - Wooden dolls are among the oldest kinds of dolls in existence. Parents made dolls for their children to serve both as toys and as items for different traditional ceremonies. An example of a popular wooden doll is the Russian matryoshka doll, a set of dolls that progressively gets smaller with one doll fitting inside another.

2. Cloth dolls - Like wooden dolls, cloth dolls were also created for ceremonial purposes. The earliest cloth dolls belonged to wealthy Egyptian families that were well preserved with them in their tombs.

3. Papier Mache dolls - Manufacturers started mass producing papier Mache dolls in the 1820s, mostly in the United States, Britain and Germany. The dolls heads were often sold separately from their bodies then later glued or sown together to complete the doll.

4. China dolls - China dolls got their name from china or porcelain. They are made of glazed porcelain ceramics. Germany began producing them in the 1830s, and they are still among the most popular dolls collected today.

5. Bisque dolls - Compared to the smooth texture of china dolls, bisque dolls have a matte finish, making them more lifelike and realistic. They became the rage from the 1840s to the 1950s.

6. Rag dolls - Rag dolls were the first dolls manufactured in the United States. One of the most popular rag dolls in history is Raggedy Ann, a red-haired doll created by American writer Johnny Gruelle.

7. Composition dolls - Composition dolls were invented in the United States, and are made of different materials, like sawdust, cornstarch, resin, wood flour and glue. They are considered more heavy-duty compared to fragile dolls produced in other countries.

8. Rubber dolls - Rubber or latex dolls became famous in the 1940s because they have a more realistic texture. Today, many otaku buy latex love dolls as part of their collection.

9. Hard plastic dolls - Hard plastic dolls are more durable than ceramic or cloth dolls. This is the main reason why they became more widespread since the 1940s. They also have more detailed appearances, and more lifelike eyes, fingers and toes.

10. Vinyl dolls - Vinyl is the most common material used for present-day dolls. These dolls are unbreakable but flexible, and are more realistic in their figures. Reasons for Collecting Dolls

Hobbyists have different reasons for collecting dolls. Here are just some of them:

1. Artistic worth - Some collectors buy dolls based on their design. They get attracted to the dolls features, clothing, and even the dolls facial expressions. The finer the craftsmanship is, the more appealing it becomes to some collectors.

2. Childhood memories - Others collect dolls because doing so reminds them of their childhood. A collector may complete a set of Transformer robots because it is one of his favorite childhood TV shows. A doll enthusiast may also collect Barbie dolls because it was the first gift she ever received as a child.

3. Historical value - History also plays a significant role in some collectors choices. The more backstory a doll has, the more interesting it becomes. A plain-looking rag doll may be worth much to a collector if it belonged to a famous person in the past.

4. Investment Some collectors also buy dolls and sell them for a profit. Serious collectors will pay at least $20,000 for a valuable piece, and hobbyists can turn their passion into a serious business.

Tips on Starting a Doll Collection

Now that you know more about dolls, it is time to start your collection. Remember these tips to make your hobby more enjoyable:

1. Start small - Dont panic and try to get your hands on every doll you see. Choose a small set of dolls as your initial pieces, and gradually build your collection from there.

2. Concentrate on just one or two kinds - Unless you plan to just randomly collect all the dolls you lay your eyes on, it is best to choose one or two subjects to start your collection. Do you want to focus on papier Mache dolls? Or are you more inclined to collect china dolls? This helps you focus and save time and money collecting pieces you are truly interested in.

3. Create an inventory - The best way to keep track of your collection is to make a list of all your items. Note down the name of the doll, when you bought it and where, and any significant detailhistorical, physicalthat can help you identify it.

4. Know your dolls - Dont just display your dolls in a glass case and forget about them afterward. Take the time to get to know them. Examine their faces, feel the texture of their skin and clothing, know the history behind them.

5. Display with care - Find a cool, dry place to display your dolls. Some dolls cannot be exposed to high temperatures or direct sunlight, so its better to have a cool room or glass cabinet you can put them in.

6. Have fun - Dolls are interesting collectors items, so dont forget to have fun while collecting them.

With all the provided information, you will have higher chances of enjoying your doll collection.

The amount of time that needs to be dedicated to studying

The amount of time that needs to be dedicated to studying

Tenth board exams can be said as the life-changing examinations. Students need to dedicate the valuable amount of time for studying at this stage. Most of the students can find it difficult in preparing correctly for the boards. Ideally, per day if a student can dedicate ten hours to studying, they can be successful in studying most of the subjects. In this time, they need to concentrate completely and develop methods to ensure the time dedicated is utilized well.

Here are few valuable tips for planning and distributing the time left before board examinations

First, foremost thing is preparing a timetable that can help in distributing the subjects. Make sure to allocate more time for subjects that a student is weak in.
Focus on the theorems and concepts of physics and mathematics. Practice these daily at least for 15-20 minutes. This way the concepts can be well understood, and a student can score well.
Follow the timetable and ensure to follow up the routine every day left before the examination. This can be a difficult initially but make sure to follow and take small breaks in between.
Concentrating on the concerned subjects is very important especially for students who are not used for studying for a longer period. Students need to plan in such a way that hard subjects need to be finished earlier and then the easier ones need to be handled.
This way they can be helpful in reducing anxiety and stress before the examinations. If the students are unable to manage the timetable, parents guidance plays a major role.
If possible, plan for group study as discussing the concepts with others can help in memorizing the contents in a better way.
Allocate some time in solving previous question papers. This way an idea can be obtained as to which topics need to focus on.
Do not study on late nights as it can have a negative effect on the student. Having a sufficient sleep is essential as it can have a direct impact on the memory power.

Self-confidence plays a major role apart from the amount of time allocated for studying. One should never give up and need to work harder to gain some hold on the subject. Taking help of a teacher or joining intuitions can be helpful in getting required guidance.

Find out other competitive exams after 12th class, and get help how to prepare and crack the exam with good marks.

The Addiction of Collecting - Revealed!

The Addiction of Collecting - Revealed!

Collecting is a worldwide popular hobby which from an early age strikes with the desire to have every stamp of your favorite children magazine or every Barbie doll ever made in history. Some individuals save their collecting hobbies throughout the years to even make them bigger, others either stop collecting or just jump to another theme and start a new collection, this time, usually smaller.

However, even if we don't want to agree on this, we are all creatures with desire to collect and we unconsciously create out own forms of collecting. Fact is, even animals tend to collect. There birds which rely not only on their voice and their amazing skills for making nests, but on their unique collections of flowers and small wild fruits for attracting a love mate.

But why do we love collecting so much?

The truth behind this intriguing question can be answered with a simple look trough the evolution of some of the most popular websites like Pinterest, Love.it and Weheartit. According to researched made in the last years, people's love for collecting comes from their sole desire to surround themselves with things they love and like. And it is not only because of the fact that they enjoy having an intriguing and unique collection or just love bragging in front of friends about what they have. The true reason, why we collect is because we simply tend to forget what we love and possess, and our collections often play the role of a reminder.

A bit of ourselves...

A simpler explanation can come from the following reference. Amongst all collecting addictions ever appeared in history, the one with most followers is the collection of photos. We humans, love to surround ourselves with items that call out long forgotten memories, because in a certain point of life, remembering becomes quite hard and frustrating. We need to remind ourselves of what we value in life more than we could imagine. Because, no matter how well we think we know ourselves, nothing can give us a better side look than our own unique collections. Each collection can be described like a so-called "item diary" and each tiny bit of it has its own value and meaning for us. Or in other words, every detail of one's collection is a tiny bit of himself. A reflection of his hope, dreams and desires.

Collecting - Yes or No?

And while psychologists recommend that each person should have a diary of his own, something that can easily bring back old memories and lessons learned throughout the course of life, still having a collection of items is often flagged as unhealthy. Anyways, collections are in fact highly valued and while some spend hours upon hours "sharing" their thoughts on a blank piece of paper, or on their desert social media profile no one ever visits, others put their energy into a winning strategy that can bring them money.

The Benefits of Being a Collector

In other words - let's talks about money!

According to one of the top oven cleaning companies in Melbourne , even the strangest and most unusual collections like the one of Mrs Vaughn made of hundreds soap bars can be beneficial. While museums deny approving her soap collection, people appreciate her enthusiasm and describe it as one of the most unusual and intriguing ones in the world. And what's bad in being famous for the thing you love doing - collecting? As Owen Brook, a Melbourne collector jokes, with such collection one could really build a cleaning company in Melbourne and never get the need to buy cleaning supplies.

In conclusion, being a collector might be not well-understood by some, but it definitely has its benefits.

And what about you, do you like collecting? If yes, what do you collect - share your story!

Thanksgiving Taco Ideas Not Just For Leftovers (but Can Be)

Thanksgiving Taco Ideas Not Just For Leftovers (but Can Be)

Post-Turkey Day taco meals are not new and entirely delicious. But theres nothing that says you cant make turkey tacos for Thanksgiving Day itself.

Its pretty easy to find turkey leftover taco recipes on the Internet. You dont need taco caterers to make a southwestern-flavored turkey taco (use chili powder, dried oregano and ground cumin), a diet-themed turkey taco (substitute iceberg lettuce for the wrap), or even a gourmet turkey taco (the secret is to use fresh cilantro).

All well and good. Adding a spiced-up cranberry relish makes for an awesome salsa, so have at it. Its not at all hard to imagine a mobile taco catering company offering these during the holiday period.

But one of the most enriching and affirming aspects of the uniquely American way of celebrating Thanksgiving is how the holiday is not tied to any religion or ethnic group. The Norman Rockwell dinner table might be the tradition of millions, but the diversity of the country can be found in kitchens and on dinner tables from sea to shining sea in late November.

For example, Italian Americans have included tomato sauces in their Thanksgiving for many generations now. German Americans manage to slip in a sweet-sour cabbage. And Irish Americans might serve up colcannon, a creamy mashed potato mix with cabbage, onions and bacon.

So why not try Thanksgiving tacos? Mexican Americans may or may not serve them, but tacos have become so universal that they hardly can be tied to any heritage. The advantage of tacos - well known to taco catering firms that serve meals for hundreds of event attendees - is that they are easy to eat in large group settings. The hand-held nature of tacos allows for service without flatware. That works just as well with the adults as it does at the kids table.

The possibilities of a Thanksgiving taco are almost endless. Thin slices of turkey are the main ingredient, of course. But adding roasted sweet potatoes, cranberries, pecans and even a little sour cream makes for a tasty dish. Wrapped in a corn tortilla (flour will do, too) its a meal worthy of Myles Standish.

Part of the reason for this - spoiler alert, this is about to get scientific - is that the basic foods found in traditional New England-style Thanksgiving dinners contain complementary aromas. The Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) claims that 80% of the pleasure of meals and feasts are the smells of cooked dishes. The professional organization says that flavor compounds (tiny particles that are aerosolized and float in the air to meet the nostrils of hungry diners, right before the meal) of root vegetables, onions, potatoes, the squash family, cooked apples, cranberries, honey and turkey simply go together. Including in a taco.

So would a margarita bar, white wine or eggnog be better with that meal? The IFT doesnt say. Perhaps a little more experimentation is needed on that.

Teaching Children How to Sew

Teaching Children How to Sew

In the "9 Secrets to Successfully Teach Your Child to Sew", I discussed knowing your child's personality. The 4 questions were:
1. Is your child a perfectionist?
2. Do they get frustrated easily?
3. Do they like following specific directions, or do they like to invent things on their own?
4. Are they able to stay on task for a block of time, or do they learn in spurts?

Before we delve into the answers to these questions, it is important to remind you of the crucial point of our teaching. We are wanting to instill a desire for sewing, not just another thing that our child needs to learn how to do.
So many times before we start something we think we need to know everything there is to know about it. Think about how our children learn the most important things in life. Did you sit your child down and explain to them the mechanics of crawling and walking prior to them doing it?
If you do not know how to sew, the best way to give your children a desire to learn is for them to see you learning to sew. Another way, is for your child to see things that other kids have made. We have many friends who have expressed an interest in learning how to sew after they have seen something that our girls have made.
So, no more saying "I just don't know how, or I don't think I can teach them myself". JUST GO FOR IT!
NOW, back to the questions. Maturity level is an essential ingredient when considering how to work with the answers to these questions.
I will use my own children, and a few other kids from families I have worked with, to show how the answers to these questions determine your initial approach to teaching. I will use different colors to represent the different girls. All of these girls had never sewn before.
A. 3 yr. old
B. 6 yr. old
C. 8 yr.old
D. 9 yr. old
E. 14 yr. old

1. Is your child a perfectionist?
    A. Absolutely not
     B. No, but could lean that way
C. Yes
D. Absolutely not
     E. Not extreme, but wanted her work to look professional from the start

2. Do they get frustrated easily?
A. No, enjoyed a challenge, and would conquer whether done correctly or not
     B. She enjoyed trying new things but if it got too difficult she would choose to stop instead of conquer
C. Yes, if something is too difficult
D. Not when working on own creation. Yes, when what she was doing was not her choice.
     E. No, would follow through until correctly resolved

3. Do they like following specific directions, or do they like to invent things on their own?
A. Always liked to create her own things
B. She preferred following an example if she knew that one was available. If specific directions were on hand she would follow these. Always found great satisfaction in accomplishing the steps to instructions.
     C. Very diligent to follow specific directions
D. Extremely creative. Preferred to invent her own creations.
E. Wanted to sew clothes with a goal of creating her own patterns.

4. Are they able to stay on task for a block of time, or do they learn in spurts?
A. If creating own thing, could stay on task for long periods of time. If following specific pattern, only in spurts.
B. Could stay on task
C. Could stay on task
 D. Only worked in spurts
E. Could stay on task

Based on each of these precious personalities, and their maturity level, this is how they started their journey of sewing.

A. Was given a box of fabric and some stuffing. Was taught the basics of how to make the machine sew straight lines, putting the foot up and down, and pressure on the pedal. She was allowed to create whatever she wanted for 3 months before I asked her to follow a pattern. Her first pattern was for a quilt. She only worked on this project once or twice a month. All other times in the month were spent on her own creations. Because of the freedom given to her, she mastered straight lines and foot pressure very quickly.
When creating on her own, she would spend blocks of time working diligently. During the times that we worked on specific patterns, she would sew and then would play or draw while I pinned the next step. Some days she worked for 15 minutes, other days she would last a couple of hours. Time was based on her interest. *Reminder: due to her age she was never allowed to use the sewing machine without me in the room with her. By age 5 she made her first dress. She continued to sew her own creations but at this time they actually looked like quilts and pillows. She just completed her first dress on her own (a little help from me with cutting and following the pattern), at the age of 8.

B. Started with practicing straight lines and foot pressure on the pedal. She decided that she wanted to sew a teddy bear first. I was concerned about this because of all the curves and the fact that I had no idea how to make one. I drew the outline on some fabric, cut out the bear and she sewed around it. I told her repeatedly how difficult of a project this was which gave her a lot of confidence when we were done. After this I gave suggestions on some easier projects. She devoured them. Because of her desire to sew clothes, we literally learned to understand patterns together. The amazing thing was how easily we understood them due to the projects we did prior. (More about this in the next article: How To Choose Patterns) She would spend a minimum of 1 hour working on her projects.
By the time she was 8, she was making her own dresses and sewing costumes. At 9, she was branching out into creating her own doll clothes without patterns. We practiced cutting off and on, but it was very difficult for her to get a good straight line. By age 10, she was doing all of it: cutting, marking, pinning, reading the patterns, and sewing.

C. Started with practicing straight lines and foot pressure on the pedal. She wanted to follow whatever pattern I thought would be best for her. I picked something that was very simple and wouldn't be easy to mess up. We spent a lot of time encouraging her, and the lines had to be really really bad in order to rip them out. After several completed projects, her lines corrected themselves.
She continued to follow a progression of patterns that built skills one at a time. Now she has the confidence to try harder patterns and isn't as concerned with perfection. She has also created some of her own designs.

D. Started with teaching the basics: straight lines and foot pressure. Then gave her a box of fabric and let her go. She needed quite a bit of supervision, with gentle reminders about not sewing when there was nothing under the foot. She had no desire to follow a pattern; instead she made her own. She spent approximately 1 1/2 years sewing her own things. Her skills naturally improved and progressed in difficulty. Afterwards, she decided she wanted to try store bought patterns. Once she learned some of the basics for constructing these patterns, she was on her own again however, her projects became more involved and had a more finished look.

E. Started with all of the steps. She wanted to learn everything in order, from laying out the pattern, cutting it out, marking, pinning, and sewing. She wanted to start with clothes, so I gave her several choices for easy dress patterns that would build skills one at a time.
As you can see, each girl started with the basics of learning to sew straight lines and work the foot pedal but how they progressed in their learning was based on their unique personality. After they mastered these steps and were confident in their ability, the projects increased in difficulty in order to introduce new skills. This reduces the pressure to learn everything at once.
